SkyLog (“we”) respects the privacy of every visitor. This policy explains what information is involved when you use our weather queries and read our content, and how it is used and protected. Using the site means you understand the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you actively provide

  • City names: the keywords you type into the search box are used only to request that specific forecast from the weather API and are not linked to your identity.
  • Geolocation: the browser obtains your device's coordinates only after you tap the locate button and explicitly grant permission. You can refuse at any time or revoke permission in your browser settings; refusing does not affect manual city search.
  • Contact information: if you send a message through the Contact Us page, we receive the email address and message text you provide, solely to reply to you.

1.2 Technical information generated automatically

As with most websites, our servers and hosting platform may keep standard access logs, including IP address (often truncated or aggregated), browser type, device and language preferences, access time, referring page and the URLs visited. These records support security, troubleshooting and aggregate statistics, and are not used to identify individuals.

2. How information is used

  1. to request weather data from open third-party meteorological services and display forecasts to you;
  2. to remember your most recently selected city, which stays only in your own browser's local storage and is never uploaded to our servers;
  3. to keep the site secure, prevent abuse and diagnose technical problems;
  4. to serve content-relevant advertising through an advertising provider where permitted;
  5. to produce aggregated, anonymised traffic statistics that improve content and page experience.

3. Local storage and cookies

The site uses browser Local Storage to remember your latest city so it can be shown on your next visit; this data remains entirely on your device. We do not set tracking cookies ourselves. Third-party advertising and analytics services may, however, collect information through their own technologies — see the next section and the Cookie Policy.

4. Third-party services

  • Open-Meteo (weather data): when you query weather, your browser sends the selected city's coordinates to api.open-meteo.com. The service requires no registration and asks for no personal information.
  • BigDataCloud (reverse geocoding): when you use geolocation, coordinates are sent to its free endpoint to obtain an approximate place name.
  • Google AdSense (advertising): once enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites (including interest-based advertising) and may collect device information via identifiers. You can control or disable personalised ads in Google Ads Settings: Google Ads Settings and the Google advertising cookies policy.

5. Things we do not do

  • we do not sell or rent your personal information;
  • we never obtain precise geolocation when you have refused permission;
  • no account is required to use any weather-query feature on the site;
  • we do not disclose personally identifiable information to advertisers.

6. Children's privacy

This is a general-audience information service; it is not designed for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect children's personal information. If a guardian believes a child has provided information without consent, they can ask us to delete it through the contact page.

7. Your rights

You may access, correct or request deletion of personal information relating to you, to the extent we actually hold it in identifiable form; you may also revoke geolocation permission, clear your browser's local data, and adjust ad personalisation. To exercise these rights or ask a privacy question, contact us through the contact page and we will reply within a reasonable period.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our features or the law change. New versions carry a fresh “Last updated” date on this page, and material changes (such as introducing a new category of data) will be highlighted. Continuing to use the site means accepting the updated policy.
