Who we are
SkyLog is a weather-query and meteorology-education website for readers anywhere in the world. We do two things well: first, we present live weather, the next 24 hours of hourly forecasts and the 7-day outlook in a clear, legible way for thousands of cities on every continent; second, we publish original plain-English articles explaining the forecast numbers people see every day but often misunderstand — such as probability of precipitation, apparent temperature, the UV index and official weather-warning systems.
We believe a good weather service does more than place a temperature on the screen. It helps answer practical questions: should I carry an umbrella today? How warmly should I dress? Will the storm affect my flight or road trip? What do children and older relatives need to watch for in this heat or cold?
Our mission
To help everyone read a weather forecast like a practical guide to the day. We aim to be especially useful to three groups:
- daily commuters and caregivers who need a quick call on the umbrella and an extra layer before leaving home;
- families looking after children and older relatives, who need to understand apparent temperature, humidity and UV exposure;
- frequent travellers and outdoor enthusiasts planning trips abroad, who schedule around wind, visibility and the timing of rain.
Where our data comes from
Live weather data comes from the open Open-Meteo API, which blends several global numerical weather-prediction models and provides them free of charge through a public interface — no registration or API key is needed. City search uses the Open-Meteo geocoding service, which covers settlements worldwide. When you actively use browser geolocation, we convert the returned coordinates into an approximate place name through BigDataCloud's free reverse-geocoding endpoint.
We never ask you to create an account. Weather queries work from city coordinates alone and do not depend on your identity. For the full picture, please read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Editorial principles
- Original: the Weather Guides and the Daily Almanac are written in house — we do not run machine-stitched content farms.
- Restrained: we cover meteorology with everyday value and never stoke anxiety about severe weather.
- Honest: forecasts carry uncertainty, so we explain what probabilities mean and where the data's limits lie.
Advertising and partnerships
We plan to cover server and editorial costs through advertising partnerships such as Google AdSense. Every advertisement is clearly labelled as advertising and kept visually separate from weather data and editorial content; ads never cover the main text or appear as forced pop-ups. We do not sell your personal information. Questions about the advertising experience are welcome on the Contact Us page.
An important safety note
The information here suits everyday reference. It cannot replace the warnings and instructions issued by official weather services during hurricanes, floods, cold waves or other severe weather. For decisions involving personal safety, always follow your national meteorological authority and local emergency-management agencies. See our Disclaimer for details.
